Guiping Fm
Type Locality and Naming
Northeast Guizhou. The Guiping Formation was named by the Guizhou Party of Regional Geological Survey in 1982, and was formally quoted in 1987 on Regional Geology of Guizhou Province. The typical section is situated at Guiping village 25 km northeast of Sansui County, Guizhou Province.
Synonym: (桂平组)
Lithology and Thickness
The Guiping Formation is dominated by the lithic sandstone intercalated with massive conglomerate. The sandstone commonly has bedded structures, molds, Bouma sequences, slump and liquefaction structures. It is 300 m thick in the naming area. [Equivalence in age to the nearby Nantuo Fm tillite.]
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
The Guiping Formation rests conformably on the underlying Datanggp Fm (interglacial).
Upper contact
Overlain by the Doushantou Fm dolomite of basal Ediacaran.
Regional extent
Northeast Guizhou; It outcrops in the Sansui, Yuping, Jianhe and Tianzhu counties in Guizhou Province.
